Ayurveda is a 5,000 year old system of medicine and healing that is rooted in reconnecting the mind and body with spirit. It utilizes an elemental theory to recognize that nothing is inherently “bad” or “good” in the world, instead things have their unique and natural place. For one person something can be medicine, and for another that same thing can be a poison. In this sense, Ayurveda is truly individualized medicine, there is no one way to reach health. Exploring your own unique constitution can empower you towards acceptance of your own elemental make up and create more balance in your life. You may find your intuition was speaking to you the whole time, giving you permission to do what feels good in your body given your environment, your constitution and the season. Ayurveda is not a diet. Food is used as a tool for health and healing digestion but it is not the only tool. Doing inner work, and building self awareness is key to healing and preventive medicine. Depending on your own unique constitution and current imbalances, Ayurveda has a wide set of tools to help you build your intuition so you can feel more in tune with yourself and nature.

Tools used in Ayurvedic Counseling Sessions:

  • Optimizing digestion with seasonal foods, spices, and oils

  • Exploring intuitive eating practices and healing your relationship with food

  • Daily harmonizing routines based on season

  • Sensory therapies based on your unique constitution (i.e. massage, aromatherapy, mantra meditation, etc.)

  • Gentle Herbal therapies

  • Therapeutic Yoga, Pranayama + Yoga Nidra

Packages:

FAQs

Whats an Ayurvedic Counseling Session look like?

All sessions are 60 minutes long. Before your first session, I send you a form to fill out that takes 30-45 minutes. It is an in depth look into your unique medical history, your habits, hobbies, relationship with food, etc. In our first meeting we go over this form and get to know each other.

The second session is a “report if findings” where we go over your constitution and current imbalance. It is in this second session you can expect to learn your “dosha” or unique mind body type, and the first recommendations are given. Depending on your unique needs and goals, we may go through different intuitive eating practices, preparing foods, and sensory therapies. We exploring adding harmonious routines into your life, not taking things away. I follow up our sessions with emails to help organize our time. Sometimes the follow up is just simple reminders, and other times their is helpful recipes, routines, and journal prompts depending on your own unique need for that session. We move at a slow pace to ensure adequate exploration into new practices. The goal is to bring more joy and ease in your life, not add to it with a list of things “to do.”

Is Ayurveda a diet?

No. Ayurveda is way more than just the food we eat. There are different schools of Ayurveda and my approach is not to see any food as off limits. For example, for someone who has restricted food for years in the quest of health, finding freedom in eating “non-healthy” foods may be the medicine to start healing their relationship with food. Beyond food, Ayurveda encourages us to use everything in our own environments as healing tools. Adding more awareness into our daily activities through ritual, self introspection, and rest have profound healing benefits on a deep cellular level.

How many times do we meet?

Ideally we meet every week or bi-weekly in the beginning. Usually this last for 3-4 months, sometimes longer and sometimes less, every person is unique. The purpose of meeting weekly is accountability and build momentum toward making shifts that can actually last. Packages are in place to encourage you to keep your commitments to coming regularly.
After weekly meeting we gradually decrease until we meet seasonally (3-4x a year) or as needed. This is not a forever plan and can change. I want you to feel more confident and empowered to make harmonious choices, not dependent on me to make them for you.

Can Ayurveda help me lose weight?

I do not focus soley on weight loss. Instead we look at your relationship with food, your relationship to your body, and where imbalances are having an affect on your body as a whole. Ayurveda is a holistic approach to health with multiple options for balance across different constitutions. Some constitutions naturally have more earth and water (kapha) which result in more weight that what culture and society have said is “healthy.” Your weight may fluctuate when you start embodying the principles of Ayurveda, this could mean weight gain or weight loss depending on what your body’s natural state of balance calls for.

Do you do zoom meetings?

Yes! I can do online zoom meetings or in-person at my office located in the Outer Sunset of San Francisco. All meeting times are in PST. If you want to be a zoom client please contact me via email solayurvedasf@gmail.com to schedule. My online schedule is specifically for in person office visits.

What kind of conditions do you see?

I work with the nourishing side of Ayurveda called, Rasayana. I love helping those who feel depleted, exhausted, burned out find there way back to deep nourishment and rejuvenation. I see many Yoga practictioners who are feeling at a crossroads because their yoga āsana practice, alone, is not remedying their health issues like they thought it would. I also work with pre and post natal people, those experiencing fertility issues, abnormal menstruation, insomnia, chronic fatigues, and anxiety. In addition if you find yourself experiencing digestion issues: gas, indigestion, constipation, bloating, acid reflux these are conditions I am well equipped to offer you support. I offer resources for those looking for deeper alternative therapies for conditions beyond my scope of practice.
